Powering a variety of contemporary Porsches, including the 550 Spyder, 718, Abarth GTL, 356 Carrera, and 904, Fuhrmann’s four-cam engine propelled Porsche to the forefront of international motorsport, securing five overall wins at the Targa Florio as well as 16 class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Across the Fuhrmann four-cam’s decade of production, it is estimated that Porsche assembled approximately 1,700 examples in a variety of displacements ranging from 1,100cc to 2,000cc. Additional details about the Fuhrmann engine can be read in BaT’s 2019 “Technically Interesting” article.
